Odysseus and the Sirens. The sirens sought to lure Odysseus and his companions to their death with their melodious voices. However Odysseus has had himself securely bound to the mast of his ship while his companions rowed on with their ears plugged with bees-wax, and were unable to hear the sirens' song.
Unfortunately, I didn't have my ears plugged with bees-wax, and I was lured by the "song" of the silver GL1800 in the picture. I refer to it the "two eyed silver monster" on the PC800 list. Purchased on a bitter cold and snowy January 27, 2003 in Somerset, Kentucky. This picture was taken at about 2:30 in the morning (about 3 hours after getting it home, and cleaning it up.)
OK, so I told many of you that I'd never own one. What I really meant was that I'd never own a GL1500. There's a huge difference there. This bike is really something. Love it or hate it, it is definitely the next generation in Sport-Luxury touring. My comment about "never owning a silver one" is a bit more difficult to defend.... :-)
Here's a picture of me riding Deal's Gap on the GL1800. Anyone who thinks that a GL1800 can't be ridden in such a way is woefully ignorant of the capabilities of the GL1800.
See the version of the "What's the difference?" page. This will help determine as to what changes were made to the PC throughout it's history.
Also... See my entries (along with many others) in the PC Maintenance and Repair Log. Thanks to Daniel MacKay for hosting the database and keeping it well maintained.
One final item... There is a local independent Motorcycle shop that I feel is worth mentioning. The name of the shop is IRE Motorcycles. They have done lots to assist me over the past year, and Trevor hands out lots of free advice (and it is GOOD advice too!) This place would be on the top of anyone's list. Thanks to Bob, Trevor, Carol, and the whole crew!
